For thousands of years the ancestors of the Inupiaq of Shishmaref, Alaska, utilized tiny Sarichef Island as a summer retreat and winter hunting outpost. Now, the some 550 Inupiaq whom call the northwestern Alaskan island home, are fighting against time to save their village from the eroding tides of the Chukchi Sea, lest they be forced to migrate to the mainland for temporary refuge from the effects of climate change.
